Native Nails - Onigum 2014 Pow Wow Round up

Hello Everybun!
I know I said I was going to post Friday and Monday, but I have something even better to show you today! We left Friday and came back Monday from a pow wow up in Onigum, Minnesota.
For those of you who don't know what a pow wow is, this website has tons of information on pow wows and what goes on during them.
This post is for all of you. Those who've never seen (or heard!) of a pow wow. Those who are curious about my culture and those who want to get an idea of what goes on during this dancing celebration. It's also for those who want to see some of the pretty nails that I had the opportunity to photograph while I was there! So here we go!

Let's start of with what I wore, in all it's simplicity.
It 'twas but a simple french tip, because I didn't have the time to do what I wanted before we left. Oh well. It was still pretty and shiny! In the background you can see my fancy shawl.

Next is a picture of the first Grand Entry on Friday...

Butterfly Dancer

Hello and happy, happy friday!

By now I am almost to my reservation which some of you know, is Mille Lacs. I'm off to pow wow it up! A pow wow is a HUGE Native American celebration.
Check out some awesome photos here if you're curious. There's tons of dancers and drummers and of course, food!
I'm a fancy shawl dancer and the nickname for fancy shawl dancers is butterfly dancers because of the way they twirl. Here's a video of a ton of fancy shawl dancers from the Gathering of Nations from this year.
I'll be sure to take tons of pictures to bring back with me and eat tons of frybread tacos for all of you!

As for my nail art I've mimicked the butterfly theme and matched the colors to my outfit.
Tada!

My first attempt at butterfly nails went terrible. This time I would say things went well!

I used
China Glaze - Fancy Pants and Turned up Turquiose  as the base colors
and
Kleancolor - Afternoon Picnic for the glitters
as well as Sally Hansen - Crystal Beading for the glittery details.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend as I'll be dancing my butt off!
